squeaky belt noise

Postby .:O4AGTZ:. » Tue Jun 03, 2008 4:30 pm

first off im not the biggest car wizz, i can do wiring for speakers, amps and headunits but thats about it. mechanically im still learning.

so iv noticed a squeaking noise coming from under the hood of my ae101 gtz, and iv suspected it is the power steering belt as i can also feel when i brake that th steering sort of feels funny. and when i turn sharply when going slow (like turning into my driveway) it has that loud squeaky belt noise for about half a second. am i right in presuming it is the power steering belt? and should it be replaced or tightened somehow you reckon? thanks for all the help!

Tighten it first, if it snaps then replace it. But usually tighten fixes the problem.

Try not to run it with it squeeking as what it's actually doing is little burnouts on the belt itself and will cause it to deteriorate.

There should be a pully wheel that is within the loop, on that pully wheel there should be some kind of a bolt which if you turn it one way of the other, it pushes against the belt, which in turn tightens it. If you're in doubt you should seek professional help from a garage!
