Caldina GT-T Boost Level and Aftermarket Boost Contoller

Postby TOYO-GT-T » Sat Jun 07, 2008 11:23 pm

I have not got around to purchasing a boost gauge as yet and I was wondering if anyone would know what boost levels they are putting out with the following mods,

Full exhaust system with Cat removed
K & N Pannel Airfilter

I would like to insure I am not exceeding the recommend boost levels of around 15psi max.

I am considering purchasing an afermaker boost controller to insure I can maintain safe boost levels, would anyone know of a good brand and model, i.e HKS EVC?

Mine with only exhaust had a nasty habit of boost spiking out of the blue. I'd definitely get a decent boost gauge if you don't have one already and watch it like a hawk!

Word!
I have had a boost gauge in my car for about a year and never seen it boost higher than 13 maybe 14 psi (thats foot flat to the boards with standard exhaust and standard air intake) But 99.9% of the time it's around 10-12 psi.

It works fine, doesn't damage anything, but if you are anything like me, it'll piss you off.
BOV venting to atmo is annoying as hell.

And it opens with partial throttle as well....when your barely accelerating. Annoying as hell as my SW20 one is. I plan to plumb it back in.

oh yeah, forgot about that... the constant hiss... real cool.

Eh... it's your car, do what you want

<old man rant>but I found it annoying, and chances are it'll attract attention from mr policeman in the future, after all, no-one will be able to afford to drive, so it'll only leave enthusiasts like ourselves on the road, they'll have to target something.

you can block it off (as mine is with a coke lid+thread tape [damn Rangi Santa]) but you wont want to vent the factory BOV to atmosphere as it doesnt do favours to the motor, you really need to use an aftermarket BOV for that (i think fivebob posted the reason why a year or so back)
i initially had some cheap knockoff HKS SSQV BOV on mine, and it hissed and blew off basically any time you lifted off the gas no matter what (ie it blew off under vacuum) - that quickly got the boot and now i have some slightly better SSQV one, got it of Al at Driven. got to admit, its not the flashest around, but it does the job of being a skank whistle without being a piggie whistle
