Postby doublezero » Fri Jun 20, 2008 9:28 pm

hey guys

Im in the middle of finding a lsd for my corolla zze123.

Im pretty new to the mechanical side of them so would anybody be able to let me know how are they installed onto.

How much do mechanics usually charge to fit it on?

Thanks guys

they pull out the box the same as doin a clutch job. but then it is disassembled to swap over diff. im not sure if it can be removed out the back on those or not-some can which would be easier/cheaper.

id guess 3hrs MAX (like 225ish) each end on removal/fitting and then whatever extra they want to fit the diff- if they can or send it to a g/box shop. id say gettin a local shop to do the removal of the box etc would be cheaper than going directly to a g/box technician.

my 2c as a part time mechanic :D

id guess way more than 3 hours!!!
it would take me prob that or more when doing my car and I've done it like 4-6 times now. And thats going flat out with also knowing where every bolt is and what size.

most fwds you gota drop the subframe down to get the box out.

Then pulling apart the box is not fast job if you havent dont that particular model before.

Having never done a FWD myself, have had the boxes out but not apart,

I'd guess at 3 hours each way ( in and out ) maybe closer,

wow, sounds like some big project job. Been checking around and seems that I cant just buy the LSD eh? supposedly there is a lot of gears and bolts that need to be bought and the price is installing would jump up pretty steep.
Is that right? anybody have past experiences of where is the cheaper place to install LSD in auckland?

Thanks for your input guys.

???
your zz corolla will have a C56 or C60 gearbox? Shouldn't be anything special for the lsd, just the same as the AE111 or AE101 gearboxes/lsd's.

Yeah - if you can pull the gearbox out yourself it will save loads of $.

Ewan (10k20v) helped me put an lsd in a C56 gearbox. With the gearbox on the bench and a rattle gun (for the disassembly) it took about 30 minutes to pull it apart, put lsd in and reassemble. HOWEVER Ewan has done this quite a few times with C series gearboxes.
Probably about 6 hours total to pull box off, lsd in and box back on.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

When I got a few quotes for one for mine, they were from $1200-2000 for the parts, and anything from 6-10 hrs.

So at best, $1500, at worst $3000

There are a few different LSDs available, the TRD one used to be the best priced, and probably the most streetable, Cusco made one, and a company called c2-power(I think) who used to sell one for the Celica GTS (same engine and GB).

There is some semi-interesting info here.

Oh, and it is a C160 from memory, not the C60 that's used in the Levin/Trueno
