Gearbox Re-Assembly (C52 Reverse Shifter Fork)

Postby no_8wire » Sat Jun 21, 2008 4:59 pm

I am currently re-assembling a C52 gearbox as the first time I stripped it down and reassembled it (put in a LSD) I couldnt select 5th once the box was together.

When the gearbox is stripped down to just the bottom casing, gears and selectors etc, I can select 5th if I jiggle the other selector that the reverse selector fork attaches too. However, once it is all together it doesnt.

I think the two ball bearings are jamming in the notch on the selector shaft for 5th and not allowing it to move down.

Any tips/tricks to sort this?

I also stripped down another box to see if it was a parts issue, however I had the same problem when I put it together...ie is a process problem not parts.

help?

The shaft that ingages 5th is round the wrong way, you need to spin it around 180 degrees. Then the lock out balls will fit properly and 5th will work.

At least thats what I remember it being, it's been a while now.
