Clutch not disengaging

Postby AE86less » Thu Oct 02, 2008 2:48 pm

My Mira has been sitting on the driveway for about 2-3 weeks being turned over but not driven.

Today I went to drive it, started, pushed the clutch and slammed into reverse (pedal still down(don't ask why I slammed it, I was in a hurry)), the car jumps backward and stalls. I had managed to throw it into gear even though the clutch was engaged.

The clutch pedal/cable is fine and I've never had any problem with the clutch (which is close to brand new).

Any ideas what it is? I'm really pissed at it, i just want to sell the little c*nt so if I have to pull the gearbox out/apart i'll probably just sell it off as is.

who put the clutch in?

it probably isint this, but if its not adjusted right, particularly on cable type clutches it could be over stroking and re-engaging the clutch at the bottom of the pedal travel.

how much do you want for it? :P

edit - does the clutch feel normal? like pedal effort required etc

Make an offer

I bought it for a grand with no WOF or Reg, has both now (not that it moves)

Has 82 700 genuine kms, engine is sweet as but the turbo burns a little oil.

Plus you get extra cool points for having the only 2door Mira round and having 12" wheels that look quite big  It'd make a mint racecar imo, stock curb weight is 530kg and it'll easily handle a bigger turbo...

I think the guy I bought it off put the clutch in, would have no idea how well he did it. I don't want to pull it apart to find out. The pedal feels fairly normal, if anything it might be a little easier - not extraordinarily different though.

It may be something as simple as the clutch having "rusted" to the flywheel...

Try starting it in gear, then rev-matching to change gears and get some speed up, then try applying the brake while its still in gear (but hold your foot on the clutch so the pressure plate is released)... The aim of this is to try and get the engine and the wheels moving at different speeds and "break" apart the friction plate and the flywheel.

Otherwise it may just be that the pressure plate springs have collapsed, in which case you'll have to replace it.
