Ae92 fxgt rear brakes

Postby deaf_rattle » Thu Dec 11, 2008 6:22 pm

My brothers friends ae92 fxgt just failed its wof for low and un even rear brakes.
Apparantly the handbrake has failed as well which i guess makes sence as they are the same thing.

the pads were recently changed.

What should i look at doin? ill probably look at bleeding the brakes to start off with.

How do i adjust the left and right calipers? or will it be a case of one caliper needing to be rebuilt?

cheers

my fx recently failed with the same problem, 70/30 split left right and bugger all hand brake. landed up removing calipers, cleaning and re greasing the slides, de glazing the rotors with some sand paper and fitting new pads.

I found one way to adjust the hand brake other than the nut on the lever is to back the cable off on the lever untill the cable is slack when the lever is down ( can be checked by looking at the cable stops on the calipers). Then standing firmly on the brake pedal and working the hand brake up and down full length of travel a fair few times (25 to 50ish) then adjust the lever and try it. I had to repeat this a few weeks later as the pads had bedded in.
