do i need to wrap or not?

Postby ke_25 » Fri Dec 12, 2008 6:25 pm

Hey,

im running one of the high rise, low mount stainless manifolds many have most liekly seen for the 4ages, currently gettiung gate flange welded as rwd, and mounting the turbo teh other day to check clearances etc (gt2871r) and teh compressor houing is FU**king close to ohe front two runners, as in about 10mm between compressor housing and teh exhaust runners,

now will this be fine to run liek is and hope inlet air temp doesnt heat up to much? or will it? and if so shoudl i wrap it, but i have heard that wrapping stainless causes them to crack,

so any alternative solutions, or weather this will be find would be helpful,

cheers shaun

im woried about it cracking though, evan if i only wrpa that samll part,

will this heat have a fast eefect on the efficiency or power output?, other option is to cut the flange and rotate a few degrees to direct compressor away from it, with turbo mounted it appears to pull SLIGHTLY in

Bah ... Mines 2mm from a runner :P

Wrap will help but not fix the problem completely.

why not just wrap it just in the vicinity of the problem area, might look crap but wont put any extra stress on the metal to make it crack.

You could make a sheet metal heat shield to go in the gap , maybe bolt it on under one of the mani nuts . Make it out of a bit of stainless so it looks nice too
