Unless things have changed in the past few years. Turbonetics themselves dont actually make turbo parts. There is only a handfull of manufacturers worldwide who make turbo parts - compressors, turbines, housings, cores etc. Garret, Ihi, Mitsubishi, KKK and Schwitzer from memory. Companies like Turbonetics, Greddy, Trust etc Just buy turbo components from those manufacturing companies and put together the 'combination' of parts and give it a name, T67, T78, T88 etc etc.

Seems pretty odd they have the same parts (codes, sizes, names) as Garrett

and what about HKS? i know they charge the earth for alot of their stuff, but i thought the whole point of their products was that they were developed and built in house, so to speak
rollaholic wrote:im not in the market for a turbo, i was just interested to hear his opinion as one of the most well regarded turbo gurus out there.
(im still interested to know by the way)
rollaholic wrote:i suppose theres as many 'best' turbos as there is engines. i guess what i was really meaning was - is there a manufacturer that stands out to those 'in the trade' like snap-on does when it comes to tools... that is, most people dont see the value in paying 5-10x as much for a tool that does the same job, but people who use them every day can see the benefits.
or to put it another way, when you want the best, and money is no object you buy XYZ turbo

behind almost every good import (note: almost) there's turbo. but theres not that many people that know as much about what goes into them and how that can change the overall outcome, compaired to the rest of the works that go on in the build. myself included.

Also weren't Toyota, for a while there, the only manufacturer to make their own turbos?
