gearbox oil treatments??

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Sun Mar 29, 2009 7:07 pm

Does anyone have any suggestions for treating my W55 box? It was run without much (or any) oil for a while (not by me :x) now it whines in some gears when on throttle.
It still drives fine, just a bit annoying when cruising on the open road. I'm going to put some Slick-50 treatment through it, but is there anything else anyone recommends?

Mate of mine used nulon g70 for his syncros. Its a good treatment for the gearbox though

put a bit or Morreys oil stabilizer in it. about 500mls and it will shut the bugger up.

avl from repco, bnt etc

stuff works wonders.
daily: ep71 turbo s 2et 90hp atw 15.5sec 0-400m (stock) current 5efhte + ct9b on 6psi, 13.7@158km , torque steer??

In the past I used Valvoline DuraGear with Proma MBL8 additive. This removed the classic 2nd-3rd gear crunch at high rpm and makes the scyncros run a little quieter.

Year before last I switched to Redline MT90 and stopped using the MBL8. MT90 is highly reccomended for the W55 and its associated syncro problems.

its not actually the syncros which are the problem though - it changes gear perfectly fine - unless syncros cause the whining? i would've thought it'd be the bearings.

it gets noisier the faster you go, around town its hardly noticable but at 100km its pretty noisy. i did put some of the morreys stabilizer in, done 250km with it so far but its still whining. will give it a bit more time and see what happens.
