turbo diesel

Postby NOLAW » Wed Apr 15, 2009 10:43 am

ok i have a 91 Toyota Hiace with a 2.4L diesel, its pretty gutless and when i brought it came with a turbo (ct20), manifold and heaps of peices to run a turbo, what i want to know is it worth it, will it become unreliable if i put it on? just want a little more go on the hills as its as slow as a slug, il get some pics up of what i have at some stage and someone can let me know if im missing anything, basically is there much involved in doing this and is it worth it?

cheers :P

if its a complete kit it maybe ok, i would try and run an intercooler
2.4 turbos are still gutless.... if it was me i would look at maybe trading it in for an import 1kz van
or tranplanting a 1kz into your van, little bit of work though

as above if a complete kit off a 2.4 turbo then it should be ok. but dont forget to also change the injector pump and put the oil cooler on the side of the block.
daily: ep71 turbo s 2et 90hp atw 15.5sec 0-400m (stock) current 5efhte + ct9b on 6psi, 13.7@158km , torque steer??
nothing sounds like a 2stroke engine on the rev limiter

just do it. intercooler is a good idea, and get diesel and turbo to adjust the fuel pump to the most effective position, or you could just crank it up till it black smokes and back it off a bit 8)

best way to do it is to get smashed 1kz van.
A lot of wiring as there is ECU to wire in.

Ive got a hilux with a 2L + turbo, I thought it was going to be gutless but it goes pretty dam good. Its just the turbo bolted on, pipe from turbo straight to intake manifold, no intercooler, non turbo injector pump turned up, no smoke, 10psi all day. Got a 5L coming soon which is going to be a +turbo and going in the ute

i wouldnt run a intercooler to be honest
being a compression engine and may or may not have " hot spots " or domes pending on pistion design the engine may run like poo's and cool the chage too much

best off just slapping the turbo on the side of said engine and drive

this time last yr we placed a turbo on one of our service trucks ( nissan condor ) made up a manifold and ran a wastegate and up-ted the fuel some what
improved the torque out put three fold ( seat dyno ) and now can easily pull all the equipment we need to do the job

so i do recomend it

inticoolers are good for catching exploding turbo's and can also give a power gain, turboed pajeros bighorns and more have them standard aswell as big trucks witch go through turbo's like nothing
Current:KE30 my baby,ke35 (now going to get the 2t treatment),isuzu spacecab ute

putting an intercooler (especially a front mount) will give a turbo deisel no end of torque increase and also makes it alot perkier, you'll also gain fuel efficency - my cruiser uses 15-20% less deisel with a cooler on than it did pre cooler
