Anyone know whats the wdest tyre that can fit on a 9" rim ?
Trying to fit some 275's and hear it can be done but they are full slicks with a reinforced outside wall so a bit scared i will bust the tyre or it wont sit properly.

a 245 or 255 will sit nice and true on a 9 inch wide rim.

being slicks they will most likely be wider than a 275 road tyre too
my 255 semi's are slightly wider than the 9" rims
but give it a go, will either work or it wont, my guess is it wont

Thans for the help guys
Decided to just give it a go anyways, i got porsche cup 270 tyres, they fitted but were super high and because of the baloon effect it starteed to rub. So ended up putting the front 240's on the rear ... pretty sweet setup but would want to wden guards and get the 270's back on :)

What car is that on? 270 is pretty huge, you'd still have enough traction with a 240 IMO.

on a JZA80 supra, stock turbos still and 1.2bar and coming out of corners is where i loose time, 240's are a huge improvement over any road tyre but would need something wider like the 260-270 atleast, just need to see if i can find something that is not so damm tall :)

Did track 1 yesterday at taupo and was still easy to get sideways.

wider tyres are not always the answer for grip.

I know that on the 6.5" rims I used to run the 205's gave much better grip that the 225's on the same rim as the tyre sat squarer and used more of the tread.

Also suspension design and setting make a big difference.

I believe you can over tyre a race car.

you kinda need to compare tyres that both sit squarly as you say, so with the required size rim. Also grip powering out of a corner in a RWD is not the same grip required to take corners at X speed.

Suspension design - yup, also something to make sure you check in order to make use of your power and grip.

'Over tyre' - yes definitely but i would say you start to loose cornering ability and increase drag then.
