ST185 GT4 problems (fuel related??)

Postby loudstealthGT-Four » Sat Aug 01, 2009 5:38 pm

My celica gt4 has been, most of the time been running less than par. This has been since I installed my front mount kit. But every now and then it'll run really well.

Here's the problem described, When I accellerate (can be in any gear) instead of it taking off, it will constintly hesitate and bog down, like it's trying to just go but something is holding it back??

I was thinking that it may be something to do with the fuel/ maybe needing a tune to accomidate for the bigger IC piping (52mm-63mm) or something like that???

Yea I'm not really sure????

Any error codes? Check/clean/replace your spark plugs and check your timing. The limits of the stock fuel system are waaaay beyond a simple IC upgrade

You don't have a boost leak somewhere? Maybe one of the joiner hoses has a split or something?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Don't forget to check the cap and rotor as well. They're prone to failure on 3S-GTEs and should be considered a disposable item ;)

Remove the cap and check for excessive wear on the electrodes and rotor, also check for cracks and carbon tracks on the cap.

Nothing tricky. See the "On vehicle Inspection (3S-GTE)" and "Distributor (3S-GTE)" sections at http://www.mr2-tech.com/bgb/mechanical/volume1/ignition_system.htm for details on what to do. It's for a MR2 but it should be the same as your engine.

Nope. Plain and simple, just make sure you take ONLY the black cap off, NOT the whole dizzy unit.

Hey another quick question. When I was talking to the guy at the garage about my timing he said that it automaticlly corrected by the computer. Is this true?

To an extent yeah, it does adjust timing to suit throttle position/load etc etc, but if your dizzy is loose and slides way out of wack, it wont compensate for that
