scratched windows

Postby rolla_fxgt » Tue Sep 01, 2009 5:24 pm

Hey I've got my car windows absolutely smear/streak free & super clean, but now I can see heaps of circular rubbing scratches all over the windshield, like someone has tried cutting or polishing the windshield before & left scratches all over it. What's the easiest way to clean them up, its really annoying when the sun hits them, its worse than having a dirty windscreen.

Will glass cutting compound work (there's a few wee chips also), or is it windscreen replacement time?

I had this same problem when the Mrs got her Glanza. Had lots of swirl scratches on the inside and outside, not sure who or what did that to it. She complained worst at night when lights hit it...

Anyway, went to smith & smith and we got it replaced as it was covered by my insurance. So that might be an option?

generally speaking you wont get rid of them, at best they might be improved with a polish with the right gear, id just replace the windscreen if thats an option for you

put some big thick blankets on your bonnet, then throw a stone at the window, then take it to smith and smith, then whalah, insurance has paid for a new one as your stone chip was unfixable ;)

working for an insurance company, I cannot condone insurance fraud. But it certainly is an option (love tap with a hammer works :P ) Just remember that insurance companies are cheap b@stards, and you may end up with a 2nd hand screen that's not much better than your current one.

up here in Aux there is a guy that sub-contracts thru Novus and he is tha flava-flav of scratch removal (and he's mobile ). Maybe call around and see if there is a similar service down your ways.
