Jumping a car with imobiliser?

Postby thornz » Sun Sep 06, 2009 2:57 pm

Am just trying to get the mr2 back on the road for summer. Went to start it today but the battery is completely flat. Now, because teh car has an alarm and immobiliser, can i jump start it? Or will I need to charge the battery on its own? Would try jump it, but dont wanna get it down the driveway, on a hill, only to find it wont start, and have to leave on the road.

Cheers

Jump start or push start?

If the battery has enough to operate the alarm then it should be ok as it'll switch the immobiliser relays, although if there is something else preventing the car from starting you'll still end up at the bottom of hill not running.

Jumper leads might be the best bet.

Jumping it with leads will be fine, as when you connect the two cars together, the battery will be active again, allowing you to turn the immobilizer off with the controls, then you can just start it.

I've been through this several times while my GT4 was off the road :P
