Carb jet settings???

Postby Adamal » Sun Sep 06, 2009 5:16 pm

Does anyone know of a good guide out there for carbs for dummies (IE: me).

Hoping to get an idea of how to get my jets right on my kart, cause I always seem to f*** it up!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Not really too sure, its on my Yamaha KT100 2 stroke. I think its a Weber?

It has a high jet, and a low jet. I can only speculate what the difference between them is, but I think if I had a better understanding, I'd have an easier time adjusting it properly.

Unlikely to be a Webber more likely it's a Walbro.

Are the jets controlled by a needle or are they fixed?

If it is a Walbro then try starting with 1/4 turn on the High speed needle & 2 turns on the low speed. Typically that will be rich, so you may need to go down as low as 1/8 on the high speed & 1 3/4 on the low speed.

For maximum performance you need to tune them for the atmospheric conditions, which typically means leaner on hot days, richer on colder days. If you're really serious about it you should get an air density meter.

High speed needle affects mid-full throttle running, low speed needle affects low-midrange.

Ahh ok. That sounds about what other people have said as well. Maybe the tuning is a big finer than what I'm expecting.

I think I'll go out on a weekday rather than a weekend to make sure theres not many people there. Haha.

To be hoenst, I was positive you'd reply to this FB :P

Cheers ;)
