BT smoking @ high rpm

Postby Dopamean » Mon Sep 07, 2009 6:56 pm

20v blacktop just started to do this around 5700 - 6k mark.
Does not use oil or that I can notice.

I've seen this before on cheaper fuel e.g. 91.
Haven't seen it before using 98+.

Am I being ripped off on my fuel?
I bought from BP last time I filled my tank and have heard a couple of stories about 91 being sold as premium.

I'll have to fill up back at mobile but it there anything common to wear to cause smoking only when hitting this rpm?

Strange seems intermittent, wonder if it’s just the "blowing the crap out the back" although this is hopeful thinking :/

Not trying to be an idiot revving the crap out of it but just trying to reproduce the problem.
Normally this is the equivalent of an engine rebuild?

is it blowing huge clouds?
is it using HEAPS of oil?
has it lost masses of power?

if no to all of those, just keep driving and stop worrying

This is for mine, its done it since the day it got imported (coming up 5 years), slack jap owner not servicing it. My opinion of heaps of oil would be a 4L used between services usually around the 5k mark

Checking the plugs is always a good start.
As in look at them carefully, make sure they're all the same.

Plugs are probably the only untouched thing on the car and I have not checked them, probably even due for replacement.
Can someone tell me what the correct spacing is on the plugs for a blacktop?

Checked the oil again today - no change since I first noticed the smoke.
No discoloration in the oil either.
No water loss.

No Smoking when punching it either, wonder if it was a bit of "crap" burning out in the exhaust system?

I've owned some mitzys in my time and one in particular I can equate to a bazoka smoke machine, worthy of replacing a smoke machine on a rockstar stage.

No it was not bellowing smoke but close, again did not do it in the normal rpm range 1-4k but 5+.

The only time I've seen this is when using 95 octane or below.
I had put in 98 so it concerned me but self admitted I'm a car hypochondriac.

I think Rev is right, no further signs (so far) so forget about it.
It will bring my blood pressure down too

Should have a 1.1mm gap.
