I know that for 4age's you can reduce the loom to minimal components for them to run - I was once told to as low as 5-6 wires....
I am looking to use a 4afe ECU and loom on a non Toyota engine and want to reduce the loom to as minimal as possible and presume some reduction is possible. For example my NZ new ae101 4afe wagon doesn't have an oxy sensor but I know jap imports do - so I assume that while an oxy sensor is preferable as it provides additional feedback to the ECU, that it isn't necessary. Similarly I assume that a knock sensor isn't required - the ECU will just assume that there is no detonation occurring as it isn't getting a signal.
If anybody knows what ECU inputs on a 4age or 4afe aren't necessary, please post them up.
Here is an ECU pinout for a 4afe as reference (I know it says 4E-fe in the image but the link says 4afe)

Any comments or opinions on how well engines with reduces looms run, or on whether any of my above assumptions are correct, are welcome.
Thanks in advance
