hydro pump 1jz to electric fan

Postby docTRD » Thu Sep 10, 2009 11:06 pm

hey all. was wondering if I kept the hydraulic water pump on my 1jzgte and looped the out and the in pipe onto each other then could i then just run an electric fan in the factory shroud on my radiator, have it switched off a relay and thermostat. will that be fine? I dont really want to rip off the water pump and change it to a viscous type as its more $$ plus cambelt tensioners etc.

Just a question - but why would you want to get rid of it?

we had to remove ours as the new turbo intake piping went straight through where the setup was. went to non hydro setup so had the room. other than that, if it's just to change to the electric fans, then i say it's a waste of time. but if you're wanting to change the water pump, or the lines, etc are in the way, then get a non hydro pump for $100ish, and a pulley kit so have the suitable water pump pulley and do it properly.

also the $1400 replacement of the hydro pump setup is a killer...

Mine was an engine swap, so I didnt have a hydro fan and it probaly wouldnt have fitted my radiator anyways. When I upgrade turbo's I will probaly remove it.

I have seen hydro fan on a windom, and thought what a stupid idea, why not just run cheaper electric fan that is more reliable and simpler system that does not require oil lines going to the fan.
If it was my car I would certainly converted to electric, less hoses, more reliable, consistent cooling.

yea funny thing is i love my hydro fan setup on my 1j cressida, blows heaps of air and runs mint! but the only reason i could use it was i had the jza70 radiator with the fan and lines etc and reservior. with this jzx90 engine i have i dont hav the hydro fan or anything and im not goin to pay heaps for a new one so thats why im goin to run an electric setup.

oh and ryan yup will update when i have made some more progress ie puttin the sucker in :p
