Head bolt washers 4age

Postby blindnz » Sat Sep 12, 2009 10:18 pm

So i just bought some tty head bolts for my 4age theyre all torqued up and the cams and everything is back in, its not till i was putting my cam covers back in i found the washers for the head bolts...
Whats the story with these, the way i see it the torque to yield head bolts i cannot reuse so i cant put them back in.
Are these washers critical? any advice would be appreciated.

They should be in there most definitely. And you can use the bolts again

you can use the bolts again if they are within spec, which i can't find atm, the tolerance is something like 1.5mm from standard.

definantly don't use them again if they are not within the tolerance

if they were new I would be surprised if they are not within spec.
Spec is on the manual

i think the head is alloy and the bolts are steel, so what can happen is through vibration etc. the bolts can wear into the head and then you obviously have less clamping and are more likely to blow your head gasket.

If anyone has the specs of the head bolts. ive got the original sizes from nz gaskets so if some one would happen to have the tolerences that would be mint.

did you get genuine bolts? if not prob best to get the tolerances from the bolt supplier
torquing the bolts into a alloy head with no washers could damage the surface the bolts contact on

i just got a set from repco, cant remember who manufactures them. maybe ill just get them out and check if they are all that stretched. i'll try track the specs down with repco. someone suggested 1.5mm but to me on 108 and 90mm head bolts this seems quite alot.
