same happened to me, you need a engineers report, take it to a body shop and get them to weld a plate to replace what was cut out but dont paint it till the engineer has seen the work. he will give you a paper saying the repair was done correctly,

depending on how much was cut out the engineer might just say its ok and clean up the edges,

LOW VOLUME CERT IT!??!!!!!
Unless your wof guy is a prick, he should just let you get away with it if you weld a plate over the hole.
IMO, engineer's reports are for when you replace/repair major structural parts of the car.

As far as I understand, you don't even need engineers report, the car is not getting (re)complied.

I think I recall something to do with 'closer than 300mm from a seatbelt anchorage' when my mate got pulled up on his WOF.
current cars:
Evo 4 230Kw atw
1971 mini.
79 bugeye 245kw atw.
Evo powered mx5 under construction

Yeah, its only if its within 300mm of a seatbelt anchorage or if the AVI has decided its a structural part of the car. Just clean up the edges and weld a plate over it to give it back any strength that may have been taken out of it and go back for a recheck. Inspectors are getting pretty picky if they want a cert/report to say its good. If you get asked for that then I'd be findind somewhere else for warrants

i got pulled up on it and had a note placed on the wof sheet saying it had been repaired correctly,
it was considered a structural part when i had the car re-vin so that's where the engineers report was needed, im sure its still needed as almost all modern cars rear trays are important structural area,

bloody Muppets and 6'9' when will they learn...

The easiest way is to get a report from a certified engineer to say that even though they are cut, the structural integrity is still good. Mine are cut and I paid $20 for one of these and havnt had a problem since.

well by the looks of it, its the 300mm away from a seat belt anchor means the wof man has to stfu and deal with it.

has this same issue in my AE101, was noted and failed on WoF, we welded a section back in to get it as close to factory as we could, treated and primed, flew through recheck.

re : means the wof man has to stfu and deal with it

reality is now that its noted, untill he / she is happy it wont pass

best thing to do, plate, weld & be done with it

so what about the parcel shelf on my celica st183?

The parcel shelf lifts up with the boot and where the 6x9's are placed, there isnt any metal and i cant see how its a structural part as it basically sits onto the plastic trim :?

Is that legal? :?

I booked my car in to get the parcel shelf speaker holes welded back to factory by a certified engineer and instead of doing the work he said that the damage it is only minor and he could certify that it was still structurally sounds & safe.

If it aint broken dont fix it.

Of course if its major then it has to be fixed. WOF guys are pretty heavy on the structural stuff like this, as they should be.

The thing you need to look at is does it contribute to strength of the body or seat belt mounts? Both of which are no so you can cut it up remove it etc and it will be fine.

Exactly. If they pass your car with a cut up parcel tray to allow 6x9's etc to fit within 300mm of the seat belt anchorage, you and your mates go out and crash just after a wof the seatbelt and surrounding metal tears from the force of a 80kg passenger suddenly going forward who does it fall back on?

Yeah yeah im not a bogan all im saying is that mine were cut but it didnt affect anything, so they didnt need to be welded up. My seat belts are anchored in to the pillar safe and sound.

I say curse manufacturers that anchor the seat belts to the parcel shelf structure.

Infact, curse the mungrels that murder parcel shelfs!
