Squeaky noise from brakes

Postby loudstealthGT-Four » Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:42 pm

Have had this squeaking sound coming from my front right brake (I think). Only squeaks when driving and really light braking stops when braking normally

When it first started about a month ago I thought oh yea the front pads need changing so I went and bought some new pads and got one side in. But couldn't change the passengers side because the caliper slider was seized but the pads still had meat left on them do just left it as it is. Anyway have pulled the caliper calipers off to check for stones and couldn't find anything and there was no bits that looked like they were scraping on anything. So I'm getting really annoyed because it's driving me mental.

So my question is what could it be??????????????

Rear pads are good

So you did nothing about the seized cailper?
Get that fixed if you didn't.

Could be warped rotor, which may or may not be due to seized caliper.

Sorted my caliper slider this morning but as I thought that wasn't the problem as it is coming from the right side not the left.

Could it be a wheel bearing? Although it doesn't do it under braking???

Going to a mechanic is a last resort or when I completly f#*k it up

do what normal people do?

jack the car up and spin the wheels. if you hear it and cant figure out what it is, take wheels off and spin hub, brake caliper etc

if you do nothing about a siezed caliper and just keep driving, it will be cheaper to go to a mechanic than to "learn" something. or get a mate to help at least

get the discs machined and make sure that you have all the clips that hold the pads in place , if 1 is missing they can move around and make a noise , but maching would be my first option , or new discs 8)

check that its not the brake shroud touching the disc, for that matter, check that nothing is touching the rotating parts. if you cant recreate the noise when its jacked up then its going to be a mission to fix it.

^^^

agree
its most likely to be a stone stuck hard up against the disc and the shroud, whip said disc off and clear out the stones

i bet you mr30%jr left nut sack , this will be the cause
