Painting/Powder Coating Wheels !

Postby MR2BOY23 » Sun Oct 25, 2009 7:29 pm

Had a quick search but don't think this has been covered before. Wanting to get my wheels painted gloss black in the middle to go from this

to this

Im wondering which option will give me the best, most durable finish painting them or powdercoating them? And which one will be most cost effective.

Also, would there be any negatives side affects from the powdercoating process?

Thanks

Powdercoating for sure. I've found powdewrcoating to be quite cost effective as well

I havn't done it yet, but to get a set of mags bead blasted and powder coted was going to be less than $200 to get done.

I'd definitely go for powder coating. Since they're 3 piece wheels, make sure you budget for paying someone to dismantle and reassemble them, or do it yourself (be careful)

i was planning on powdercoating some wheels and leaving the lip polished. as it turns out an uncoated edge with powdercoat will tend to lift etc.. it will depend if you can completely coat the centre. I ended up ditching the polished lip idea and got the whole wheel coated.

cost me $200 to get the set done.

Now I cant be absolutely 100% on this, but my workmate who used to work for a powdercoater said you can actually powdercoat the centres of a rim without seperating them, though the sandblaster would have to be uber careful.

we just put heaps of layers of masking tape on the surface to be un-blasted (highly polish Stainless) works well.
