Blacktop 20v Toyota Manual

Postby Bazda » Tue Oct 27, 2009 1:24 pm

Ok so I have the blacktop 20v manual with me that is found on the net everywhere.

I Just read it says to install the exhaust cam wheel so the pin on the cam shaft goes into the cam wheel hole 'without' the number '5' on it.

But if you did this the camshaft is approx 90deg out...

The cam wheel actually has a dot cast into (same place as # 5 marking) it which I thought would indicate where the pin on the cam shaft locates.

Has any one struck this in the manual? Is this a typo?

Yes i cam across that, and it confused the $&#$% outta me for hours.lol. I cant remember excatly as it was ages ago, but common sense and visual on the cam lobe angles means it can only be one of the marks. I wondered if that part of the manual was brought over from the silvertop which have different pully's.

Yeah i saw this when putting my head back together worried me abit thinking i had done it wrong. But i just looked where the one slot had scratches from sitting on the cam before hand so that where i put it back ..had previously wondered that.

Have a look at the top picture on page EM17 of the manual. You'll see there are actually 2 timing marks on each pulley. When the 2 top marks line up on the timing cover the dot on the inlet and the slot on the exhaust should line up where they are closest together. I think that there should also be an indent on the inlet cam looking into the oil hole if the inlet cam is in the right position.
See ya
