Postby TRD_ZERO » Thu Nov 05, 2009 4:53 pm

Use the appropriate Loctite Thread Sealant for the job.

It's a good idea, you just can't wrap it all the way over the end so that bits & pieces of it will get chopped off & go to an injector.
Thread dope/sealant is for tapered pipe threads only, not flares & not the threads of flares.

If you are talking about the earls type fittings that attach to your cooler then they are to be replaced if they are leaking. The fittings have a taper seal and do not seal thru the threads.

IMO thread tape is best kept to hosue hold water plumbing,
its teflon and you can do them up a lot tighter than normal when over tightened it splays the actual fitting so they wont do up properly in the future, or sometimes even seal at all

any taper thread, ie npt, bsp you can use thread sealant,
these fittings seal on the actual thread, the thread is tapered so the tighter it goes the more contact the threads make.. to a certain extent,

examples of an npt fittings

any taper seal ie jic the actual taper seals, and the threads just hold it there, dont use any sealant, if the taper is damaged there are special graphite seals available that will help seal
