Play in left front wheel ae92

Postby callum » Tue Jan 12, 2010 10:11 pm

My ae92 failed it's warrent because of play in the left front wheel. When I Jack the car up I can wobble the wheel slightly left and right but not up and down. I checked the strut bolts were tight so the only thing left really is the stearing arm. What's likely to be loose or worn? Has anyone had anything like this occur before.

Cheers

Ok, I held the steering arm and wiggled the hub and the play was gone so I'm assuming it's the rack end? Do you just go to repco or some where like that and buy a new one? Also I'm putting a new motor In soon would it pay to leave it till the engine bay is empty. Any help is really appreciated.

Fairly easy for tie rod, rack end on other had could be a pain (to undo and tighten it). Pretty much unbolting and hammering out (do not hammer bolt itself, only side of the hub, perpendicular to tie rod). Rackend is little bit more pissassing around due to the way it is bolted in, some times it is difficult to get at with open end spanner. There are special tools but not worth of getting for one occasion.

I recomend doing it with engine bay empty - 100 times easier.
You could either get it from Partsmaster, BNT, Repco or Toyota (I would recommend toyota).
