mr2 turbo shifter cable lengths

Postby gasman » Sun Jan 31, 2010 8:59 pm

planning on swapping in a turbo mr2 box in my mr2 but from what i can determine the non turbo shifter cables wont fit or they will but will move the shifter towards the right.

i have a friend that knows a guy that has a whole heap of cables lying around but doesnt know what they are from but says that toyota has some colour bands painted onto the shifter cables.

so does anyone know what colour i need or know what the actual differences are between the cables so that i could identify the ones i need?

also rumor has that i only need one of the cables, any one know which one?

Hmmm.... I don't see why they should make a difference? It should only make a difference if the shifter points are further or closer to the shifter cable mounts on the gearbox (where they have the clips that hold them in place). If that were the case, you'd have an up/down issue as well.

Also, why are you going with a turbo box on an N/A? The gears are longer, so acceleration will be slower, just the top speed of each gear will be higher.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

i cant remember which cable it is, but i can confirm that one cable is different, longer or shorter im not to sure.

i have to wonder about the box swap into a na as well? you wil need the half sharfts and everthing that goes with that, seems like a lot of work?

i am ... sort of, just awaiting for more money.
if i recall, the N/a cables are shorter... Turbo ones are longer.

im doing it into a Turbo SW, but for the short time i have an S54 & axels.
so i can dummy up something stupid on the E153.

but first i have to fix the chassie on the fooker.

would you be able to measure them up?

the two measurements that would be needed are the distance from pin hole to pinhole and the distance between the clips on the external sleve of each cable.

i got a set of n/a shifter cables out of the car so can compare the measurements easily.
