Dash and tailights not going

Postby GT4-Addict » Sat Apr 24, 2010 8:38 pm

Hi everyone. I have just lost the dash and taillights on my st185 celica.
Im suspecting its the fuse, which i assume is down by the drivers foot? does anyone know which one im looking for or have a diagram of all the fuses?

Also, if its not the fuse does anyone have any ideas what else it could be? Relays etc?

Cheers! Sam

It'll be a fuse, if you dont have a test light just pull out one at a time

Nah i havent installed a headunit lateley, i dont really give 2 cents about sound systems in cars, just extra weight as far as i am concerned. Only work i have done recently is replace the steering rack boot and left tie rod end.

I didnt think to check the interior light. I will check the dome fuse tomorrow, fingers crossed it it blown! i had to jumpstart the car the other day, prehaps this had something to do with it........

The reason we ask about the radio, is that many many people install headunits, and use the illumination wire as a ground (its a brown wire iirc), and it acts like an earth till the lights are turned out, so blows the dome fuse affecting the taillights and dash lights :)

If you dont have the stock headunit in there (either aftermarket or nothing) check to make sure there is no wires shorting, as that could be causing it to blow the fuse. I infact did the same thing to my MR2 installing the backlight on my boost gauge, even tho i know about the illumination wire i still accidentally earthed it through that, and come wof time, i had no taillights

I Just went out and checked the dome fuse, Its fine. Im thinking either a relay has gone kaput or i have a split/ shorting wire somewhere. Any ideas?

Dome fuse?

that is constant power that feeds interior light, and clock and stereo memory?

Nothing to do with tail lights.

there will be a specific tail light fuse,
and it is in the interior fuse box.

Problem solved. Turns out wires had come loose in behind the dash and were creating a short circut. Took a decent amount of time and swearing to figure it out!
