Auto trans leaking.

Postby blindnz » Sat May 22, 2010 11:30 am

I have a got a auto mitsubishi lancer 4g15 and the auto trans is leaking a bit. Now the gear change is getting less and less smooth from 1st to 2nd.
The leak is most likely from the drive shaft seals. What are these like to replace and how much do these usually go for?

The seals wont be too dear, I would imagine sub $20 each. Never done axle seals on a mitsi auto, but I would imagine its just the same as any other front tug gearbox, not hugely tricky. You'll want to drain it before you take the axles out though!

Nah they're not too delicate, just try make sure you install them flush, they have a lip which goes outwards, pretty hard to go wrong. By split washer do you mean split/cotter pin? If so yeah, replace them. If you mean theres a spring washer under the nut then nah they'll be ok.

i mean at the end of the shaft where its slotted theres a split washer on the shaft. like the end that goes into the trans has a slot in it with a split washer.

Circlip type thing in a groove on the inner cv shaft? Unless you mangle it getting the shaft out, it should be re-useable.
