Help - ST205 bonnet on ST202

Postby 5OBAIT » Tue Aug 24, 2010 4:09 pm

Ive put a ST205 GT4 bonnet on my wifes ST202 celica & for some reason it wont open properly when you pull the bonnet release inside the car. So after pulling the release you have to slight press down on the bonnet & reach up the gap to manual unhook it. Ive tried adjusting the bonnet position & the latch to correct this but no success.
It didnt really bother us but she just went for a wof & they failed her because it doesnt open correctly!?! (Even though 6 months ago it passed fine like this at the same VTNZ). So it would be nice to make it work correctly to avoid any future problems.

Do the models have different bonnet latches or what am i missing/overlooking to fix this? Any suggestions appreciated.

Bonnet latch needs adjustment (secured by 3 bolts).
Don't go to VTNZ.

thats what i told her!! Plus at $45 i dont see the point, my mechanic only charges $30 & i trust him more.

I had a play with the latch when I first fitted it but will give it a better go tonight. Maybe i moved it the wrong way.

Ok after playing around with the latch & getting no success it suddenly dawned on me what the problem is!!!! The latch on the 205 is different then the 202. As shown in the bonnet pics below....

Vented 205....

Standard 202...

The grove that the safety latch fits into is a lot bigger on the 202 bonnet which is why its not opening correct as the 205 must have a longer hook to compensate for the raise in the middle of the bumper.
So if anyone knows of or is wreaking a gt4 & has a bonnet latch please let me know.

At the mo its just got the standard front which does leave a slight gap in the middle but if you didnt know any better it looks like an extra vent. Im just keeping an eye out for a decent condition gt4 front to come along.
