Will a 4age run on a 4agte Link map??

Postby AE86fan » Mon Aug 30, 2010 11:04 am

I pulled my head off on Saturday and discovered some pretty nasty piston and bore damage from detonation (my fault put the CAS back on a tooth out and went for a drive :( ).

I have started to chuck a blue top together to put back in so that I might be able to get some use out of the car while Im building a new motor.

Im going to stick with the same 16v head I had on the boosted engine with the same injectors (395cc), CAS and Link computer.

Other than the small exhaust issue the only other issue is that the tune in the V5 Link is for the turbo motor.

I figure the car should start and run with no issues but not sure if it will be ok to drive as far as ignition timing is concerned?

Im guessing the performance would be pretty average??

why not just keep the turbo on it with the bluetop? just trim some timing from the boost part of the map. bit of boost wont worry it long as you don't get carried away.

Good idea, but I noticed there is a bit of oil in the exhaust housing so Im guessing the seals are gone in the turbo as well and I just cant spend any more bucks on the car right now without risk of the Miss's busting my balls.

Im really hoping for a real low cost fix for the short term while I work out where to go from here.

was it smoking? because they can weep oil out into the exhaust housing if they have been siting on there end.

dout the tune will be much good for n/a. as the parts of the map it will use n/a, wont be tuned very well. as when turbo it wouldn't see those parts the map or just pass thru them briefly. if you get what i mean

Yep, smoking when decellerating. I think I might have been putting too much oil pressure into it even with the 1.5mm restrictor.

I will chuck it together and see how it goes..............

It went bloody good with the turbo on it but Im thinking next engine will probably be a 7age or similar, just be nice to get rid of all the extra stuff associated with a turbo and have a simple setup.
