AE101 trueno inner cv?

Postby sik_gt_starly » Mon Sep 06, 2010 1:42 pm

Have found source of chronic vibration on acceleration, the RH inner cv is ROOTED

Has anyone replaced one of these before, im having great difficulty finding a replacement, have tried all automotive shops here repco, bnt, supercheap etc with no luck, just waiting for toyota to get back to me.

Any idea on what price is for new?

not even the wreckers round here have one and id like to get this fixed ASAP

cheers

Wouldn't one from a Corolla/Sprinter fit?

I replaced both complete sides on my AE101 GTZ about this time last year.

From memory Toyota don't actually do an inner CV by itself, you have to get the complete drive shaft (could be wrong)

Cost me around the $600 mark for both RH & LH side complete shafts, that was through Mark too, pricing might have changed since then though

$387.20 for just the right hand inner cv (according to the chick from toyota) ex Japan, cannot believe something with very little to it costs so dam much.

Hmm off to the wreckers/trademe i think, dont think i can justify that sort of coin for my crusty daily

that $387 is for the inner CV and drive shaft

have you contacted Mark our Toyspeed sponsor & asked him what price he can do it for?

If that $387 is a price from ringing a Toyota dealership then i am sure Mark can do it at a better price

Sorry to hijack this thread but I noticed while doing the brakes on my car that the R/H front inner boot is torn on my ST215 GTT.

Does the 'toyota not supplying boots' thing apply to all toyotas?!? Are there any other options? 8O

Wow - after being quoted $350 to have the RH/F C.V. boot replaced it begs the question: How hard is it to do this job myself?

Do I need any special tools to get the boot on? Or is a case of dismanteling shaft and sticking it on?

you can do it yourself, toyotas can be difficult to get the outer CV off the driveshaft though. if the CV itself is still ok i usually remove the whole drive shaft and take the inner one apart, then slide the boot down from the inside if that makes sense. bit of a hassle but less swearing!

+1 on extreme difficulty taking off the outer CV off shaft. A few cuts with angle grinder in strategic places and good whack usually does it.
Since you are replacing inner CV, you are far better off buying inner CV/shaft combo from toyota and disassembling the new unit and using your old outer CV and shaft.
