Keep blowing the sidewalls on 19 inch tyres

Postby gx » Wed Sep 22, 2010 8:21 pm

Hey guys, Ive got a 1996 Toyota Hiace Super Custom and I'm having a few problems with wheels/tyres. When I bought it it had 215/35/19 inch tyers on 19x7 rims. After a month one of the tyres on the front started looking flat and I was told they had sidewall damage and that the tyre could not take the weight of the van. Before I buy new tyres, does anyone know the best wheel tyre package for a hiace? Should I go to 225/35/19 or sell the rims and drop down to an 18inch rim?

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

they are too weak.

I would suggest an 18" wheel would be better, you may be able to get a 19" liek a 235 35 19 with a decent load rating if you are set on 19" rims but if theyare only 7" wide you are gonna have a hard time to fit 235's to them.

sounds like some idiot brought the wheels off trademe and flicked the van fast... looks like you got the raw end of the deal mate,

PM me a photo of what you have on it and what the tyres are and i may do a trade in with you or can look at the option of bigger tyres if you like.

They are DTM RSGT's, I'll send a pic soon. Long story but I took the van to a performance place in wgtn and they sold me 2 x Toyo 225/40/19 and put them on the front, the van had to be raised to accomodate them and looked terrible as it was a different height front to rear so... I swapped the front tyres with the back ones which were 215/35/19, some crappy brand called (fullrun).

Could I get away with buying a decent brand 225/35/19?

Basically, The load rating on the tyres is wrong.

Your van would have come out on 185R14 8 Ply tyres with a load rating of 102(which means the tyre can carry 850kg)

The highest 235/35R19 I stock has a LR of 91 (615kg)

Your van shouldn't have passed it WOF with those tyres on at all, because the load rating is WAY to low, which is why your tyres are blowing out. remember its the sidewall of the tyre that holds the weight of the vehicle.

So the short answer is no, you cant get away with running a decent brand, unless you can find a tyre with a LR of 103.

But finding one with the same or similar OD with a 103 load rating is difficult
