KYB or OEM Toyota struts?

Postby nile » Sat Oct 02, 2010 3:50 pm

I can't decide between getting the OEM Toyota FXGT (ae82) struts, or the KYB twin tube gas ones (R-332021 F-365041). I am also wondering if they are the same part? The KYB set is around $200 dearer than the OEM ones at the prices I get (account at Toyota but not at SCA)

Can anyone here shed some light in any difference between the two, and which would be best?

AFAIK KYB are factory eequivelant, so there should be no difference. But I could be wrong :P

Is this just for a daily street driven vehicle? If so, i would just go with the OEM ones. You prob won't be able to tell much of a difference if any.

Yeah daily driver as well as an entry level car for clubsport (autox/motokhana). I was looking at doing the Koni thing but decided to keep this car on the cheapish side of things and just get a better car sooner. I will be looking into getting some new springs made up too.

Go genuine.
The kybs will be generic corolla ones. Genuine will have specific fxgt valving.
They are not the same.

That's what I initially thought but KYB have a different part listed for the "GT compact 16V" which I assume would be a stiffer strut?

I'm leaning to genuine because it seems like at worst it'll be the same part as the KYB.

Oh do they now? That might be worth looking into then, then never used too. see if you can find some specs. Stocks should be able to tell you the difference between the stock KYB and the GT one. That said they I doubt they will be better than genuine and $200....

I wonder what it would cost to get some dyno'd....

Do you know where Stocks are? I emailed them about the koni inserts - no reply, and I went looking for their shop and couldn't find it, they've just updated their website with the new address - doh!
