Fill plug is on the front, by the radiator/firewall in AW's, pretty easy to spot.
Drain plug is at the bottom, again pretty easy to spot. Just look for a 23mm(?) plug

hey guys, have drained the oil, but having a bit of trouble getting the fill plug out. should have attempted that bolt first, $&#$%. we have now rounded the corners pretty badly, and in desperation tried hammering it with a screwdriver, damaging it more. our socket was a star patterned bolt, which blows... a 24mm hex socket would have been much better. really need this bolt out so we can fill the box with oil! any ideas? anyone near mt wellington able to lend a hand?

If you're good with a dot punch and hammer you can get them out by hitting on the face in an anti clockwise direction.

Otherwise if it's not completely rounded try getting a smaller spanner/socket on and see if that helps (23mm or 15/16 if it fits snug) you may have to bash the socket/spanner on with a hammer but the bung is damaged anyway so....or you could use a set of vice grips.

Whatever you do is gonna result in needing a new bung anyway so go to town on the bastard  Next time take the fill bung out first - it helps the gearbox drain to have the fill bung off while draining.

If you can't get the fill bung out you can fill it through the speedo sensor at the rear of the gearbox, Will need to find out how much oil the box takes to fill as you won't be able to see when it comes out the filler hole to know when its fill. I think 2.6 litres will do it

tried to bash a 23mm socket onto the now $&#$% bolt, managed to get it on and made a nice star pattern on the head too, and thought awesome, this might actually work.

just rounded the head again. these things are made of cheese, honestly.

wish id seen your post, fx, before i left my mates place. ill see if i can get off work early and try to take this speedo bolt out. is it this one? third pic:

thats part of the selectors. i allways filled through the reverse sensor hole on c series boxes. which is just left of that bolt in the pic

any of those 3 holes in the top will do i guess.

Had the same issue with my one too, ended up using a cold chisel in the same manner iOnic says with a dot punch. Cold chisel tends to dig in a bit, though can carve it even worse
