ST/BT into 4afe AE101 Corolla HB

Postby spoonza6 » Sat Oct 16, 2010 8:33 pm

right, i did a search and it was pretty limited

i have a 93 Toyota Corolla GT 4afe powered

i want to drop a 20v 4age in and

so far i know a BT or ST with gearbox will bolt up no problems
with all the loom and ecu available

would the integration of the loom be the only fiddly bit to do?

Hi - I put a silvertop 20v into a 4afe AE101 marino

Silvertop loom and computer plugged straight into the body loom.
Only thing I had to do was join the fuel pump control wire from the silvertop air flow meter (afm) to the body loom.
The 4afe computer controls the fuel pump VS afm in the silvertop setup.

The blacktop will be a better/newer option but you will have to do a lot more to get it running as it won't plug and play like the silvertop

Bought an AE101 Marino 4afe C50 that had a seized engine.
We (me and Ewan, 10k20v) bolted the whole front subframe and suspension from the Trueno into the Marino (brakes, suspension, gearbox and motor) also swapped the brake booster and bias valve.
Also swapped the rear brake,s handbrake cables, hubs and swaybar across. Should have swapped the steering rack so the 20v steering vacuum lines had somewhere to plug into (it runs fine with these lines just blocked off!).
The 20v engine loom plugged straight into the Marino body loom. There was even an unused plug on the Marino loom just waiting to plug into the 20v aircon idle up valve!!!
Only wiring needed was a jumper wire from the 20v loom to the fuel pump relay wiring so the pump worked correctly.
Easy! But sure helps to have the complete donor vehicle!
Total cost $1200!!!!! for everything including the cars!
Big brakes and cert next.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

depends what you are after. i put a blacktop in my ae101 trueno. was a bit tricky wiring it up as the wiring for the body loom to the fusebox is different in ae111 & ae101 series cars. ended up re-wiring the fusebox (i had help from a mate whos pretty clued up electrically). also found we had to add in a starter relay and run a few extra wires.

if you are after a bit more go for a daily and an easy swap, do the ST as it plugs straight in if you use the silvertop loom. (maybe 5-6 wires need to resolder)

but if you are after a little bit more go than a ST and all the other benefits of a BT, it might be worth the extra wiring effort. it only took us probably a total of a day or so to do the wiring (normally worked for 45min stints before our wed meet  )

if you use a silvertop loom in with the blacktop you just run the IAT sensor and map sensor off the afm wires and change some wires at the computer, its probably easier than wiring in a blacktop loom, and all plugs up to the engine
When in doubt, down and out.

this would be a fantastic buy. reasonably priced too. you could find one cheaper but sometimes its worth paying a little more and having a little bit of piece of mind. will def be wanting the LSD box as well!
