4agze manifold

Postby toyotaspeed » Tue Nov 30, 2010 12:05 am

Has anyone successfully put a 4age manifold on a 4azge engine while its still supercharged? Heard talk about people doing it on other forums, but never seen pics of it done. Would be keen to keep the tb before the charger. Any examples would be helpful. The car is an ae101 gtz.

Cheers

im confused do you mean intake or exhaust manifold?
The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

Yep we did it.

The main differences was that the car didnt accelerate when you come of the throttle with a front mount intercooler, so the car drove heaps smoother.

We also picked up i think like 8kw atw.

Theres a lot of mucking around to get it working.

If you mean a n/a inlet manifold with a supercharger, then this guy has...

I cant find a complete picture.

The only custom piece you need is the outlet supercharger pipe.
You'll also need a custom air intake, or just do what we did and didnt bother with it and just ran some hoses. No air filter for the win :)

The car spun a bearing about 3 months later though....

I can say, you will definitely pick up power, expect to see close to 10kw atw gain, which is heaps. But the car will drive soo much smoother with a big front mount intercooler.

If anyone has put a front mount on their 4agze will know when you change gears the car always revs up on its own.
When you lift of the throttle the car feels like its still accelerating for an extra half second.
These are all slightly annoying problems which are all solved with the 4ag intake.

You would have had the TB after the charger to cure that though,
not before as toyotaspeed was asking for.

IMO if you want to stay S/Charged, and modify intakes and I/C's,
TB after the charger should give better driveability.

I can see where Quirky's extra 8kw came from, after playing with a few 4agze's the intake manifold is horrible. Such a sharp almost 90deg angle into the last port :?

Made about 100kw at the wheels on stock boost.
Thats how much power my other car made with a crank pulley running 12psi of boost.
Was silly though, we should have adapted an air filter, we were too excited to get the car running.

Matt

Wouldnt using a bov cook the charger faster as it wouldnt be able to release enough air? Other than it maybe not fitting what are the disadvantages of putting the tb before the charger. It works fine factory and i already have a bigger top mount to replace the factory one. Wouldnt look at going front mount too much piping.

Quirky how did you run your arrangement?

Cheers guys

Throttle before supercharger is only a disadvantage with a lot of pipework, ie a front mount.

If you were planning on using a GE intake, why not just use its factory throttle position which also makes it easier to plumb up all the idle-ups.

The blow off valve in the pic is actually run as an air bypass valve. Because the factory one connects to the intake, which is no longer.
It actually works very similar to a wastegate, except its on the intake side.
With a 7psi spring it would release pressure to atmo if the supercharger was giving out more than the 7/8psi.
