EXPERTS needed....mysterious ROCKING/KNOCKING noise in BZR

Postby Tagged » Tue Nov 30, 2010 1:41 am

As some of you might already know, I had a BZR thats got some "noisy" problem.

For those who don't know, here it is all over again, including the new situation......which is getting on my nerves;

1. Bought a BZR from a friends friend

2. Had a total of 4 ppl in car and problem appears

3. Both left and right of the rear end start making a hell lot of "knocking" noises when driving, sound fades on very smooth road, but as long as theres vibration, theres this noise, more extensive on the right side

4. Took it for a check, and replaced many worn out/broken mounts and both front bushes and ball joints i believe

5. Had 3 ppl in car one day and the noise is back, not as bad though

6. Took it for another check and the rear suspensions/bushes and the links around it are totally fine, found out the jack and the spare tire in the trunk were loose, tighten it and thought that was the problem

7. Apparently its not.....coz today I had a full load again and the horrifying noise is back.......WTF is wrong with this car???!!!

The "knocking" almost sound like loose panels going against each other, or to be more precise, it sounds like having a rock rolling around in a metal container.

But it only happens when theres substantial weight in the car????

Info:
- car is lowered on green tein lowering springs
- previous owner had sub+amp, could it be loose wires in the panels?

So...can some one plz help me on this? Its driving me nuts.......

Thanks all~

does it affect the steering/handling at all?
can you feel it through the steering wheel at all?( i had a similar problem that sounded like it was comign from the back but ended up being the control arms up front)

obvious one is to check that all the suspension etc is tight and not hanging loose?
The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

Have you replaced the lower arm and camber link yet? The camber links are about $250ea and the lower arms about $350 ea.

Might also be your exhaust banging against something when clearances get tight

hmm....I'm not too sure but I don't think I can feel it on steering, and yea I've got a garage to check all the suspensions for me and they are fine, some worn out broken bushes have been replaced and the noise still occurs@@"

no I haven't actually, coz I took the car 1st to Chamberlins in Chch for a $35 check and all they came up with was broken mounts and worn bushes. Which was all replaced.

I'd imagine if the lower arms and the camber link were to have a problem, they would have found out? Or are they not that obvious to check for so could be missed out?

I'll definitely check on this one, although I once had a car which had this loose exhaust problem, and it sounded different

With a car load of people in it? You can't check for things rubbing unless you have lots of weight in the car as that's when you say the problem occurs. As you say its fine without a full load, so just checking you didn't check with the car empty as well.... yeah....

lol im feeling stupid, as we did check with empty car....haha. might have to check again with some load, however the car is only lowered like for a little bit, won't even tell if you didn't pay attention to it

It's probably not rubbing, but its an easy thing to check off the list of possibilities anyway :) Come take me for a spin if you can't find it.
