Diagnostic light / code on a 1998 Mazda Familia (BJ5W - ZL-VE Motor).

I get 0345; but I'm not confident I'm reading it correctly.

Afaik, you have the initial 3-sec flash when you turn the key on. Then, long flashes are 10, and short flashes are 1.

So if what you've got on the video is what keeps repeating, I make that as 11, then 13, 14, 15.

And remember, you're post-96, so its' OBD-II. If you can't find a list of codes, I can't imagine it costing too much for mazda to plug in their diagnostic tool and tell you for sure.

From what I've read Mazda's have a 4 digit code.

So the code is 1345 (I hope). Faulty cam position sensor - which hopefully fixes the car cutting out all the time.

Thanks man.

The 4-digit code (P0000, P1000 etc) I'm pretty sure is what the proper diagnostic scan tool gives you, not sure if you've got that right using the LED.

Honestly man, unless you're absolutely certain that its' the CAS (which kinda would make a bit of sense if its' cutting out etc), I'd pay the man and get a proper scan tool onto it. Thats' my disclaimer! haha. :)

cam sensor are a bit of a common fault on those motors

Hmm driving it's a bit of a mish at the moment :x - there's a surprising amout of motorway with no saftey shoulder and the car's not reliable enough to get it to a garage.

I've done a bit of reasearch and like strx7 said, it sounds like a reasonably common fault along with the EGR (I'll ask for that to be looked into too).

Maybe I'll price up a sensor - if it's cheap I won't bother. If it's expensive I'll take it to a garage and get it double checked.
