Played with 4AGE Cam timing

Postby Flannelman » Fri Dec 31, 2010 5:33 pm

Ok, did some fiddling a few days ago and wish to know if anyone elce has done this and what they got.

First off, because of the headwork Ive carried out things will be different yet still after some info with a stock head.

Stock timing position - throttle response is instant, acceleration only available in the first 25-30% pedal travel. Idle - ok but not flash.

Intake ADVANCED ONE TOOTH - loss of instant response so felt softer. Less pull in higher RPM with no rush feeling. Idle - very rough.

Intake RETARDED ONE TOOTH - loss of instance response with distinct, sharp acceleration when VVT activates. Power more controllable with pedal. Small loss of power to 4k leading to the ramp which peaks and holds till around 7k where it runs into a brick wall and goes flat till rev cut. Noticed most in 3rd. Idle - Perfect!

So, has anyone fiddled with there timing and what did they get?

1st of all you need to count teeth of cam gears on inlet and then devide into the number of teeth to 360 degrees as cam turns 360 to crank 720
once that is done try 1/2 tooth at a time ,either forwards or back wards
on my beams we are advancing 1 tooth and then pulling back at 8000 rpm same with exhaust turned on on start up and turned off and on through the rev range
but my cams are 14mm of lift or 565 thou in old scale
