central locking or not? if not, check passenger door.
Otherwise, you'll have to get coat hanger and jerk the lock rod to release the catch.

If it's an 80's car the locks might be old enough to have worn out, try using a similar shaped key and wiggle it around a bit, I've had this work before.

On cars with the locks that stick up from the doors, you can't beat using that blue tape shit that people use to wrap up newspapers - wrap it around the knob and presto, open car. Occasionally you need some sandpaper on it for extra grippage. Good thing about this stuff is its usually in the skips around shopping malls where you usually lock your keys in.

On cars with the locks in the door handles just use stiff wire.

On cars with central locking use stiff wire to press the central locking button down and open the car.

Heh, I have locked keys in my car so many times. Remote central locking is the best solution :P

Master switches generally have a timer relay that shuts out this function, so this isnt actually an option. If nt its just begging to be broken into.

Thats bloody hard to do if the remote is dangling from the key ring like they usually are when you've locked the keys in the car

I unlock a fair few cars through work as we do it on a roadside rescue deal,
and it is the easiest way to unlock them, unless the ign is on and they have electric windows.
Haven't found one where the central locking turns off on a timer.
Electric windows do have timers though.

Hah, I'm pretty sure you would have to be MacGyver or something to get that to work.

Interesting about central locking on a timer - I have only used that one on some late 80s cars of my parents. I guess manufacturers wised up in later years, or at least mitsubishi did.

Sweetest one I found out the other day was that one of the work cars (Aurion) will not let you lock the keys in the car - when you try to lock the driver's door behind you it just beeps at you shut it and wont lock. Same car has also got one of those systems that lets you open and start the car with the keys in close proximity - sooo awesome.
