mr2 main efi relay voltage low

Postby gasman » Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:19 am

Here is a bit of a conundrum that I have at the moment. Speedtech noted that the ecu voltage was sitting at about 12.5V not the recommended 13.8V that it should be getting. I had a quick look around with a multimeter and the main feed off the alternator was 13.8V but the voltage in the main efi relay power circuit was sitting at about 12.5V-13V range. The main efi relay is more or less connected directly to the same power bus as the alternator through a 15A fuse.

I checked the resistance to and from the efi relay and the alternator power and they are all quite low and what I would expect from a straight piece of wire, so I then proceeded to pull apart the main efi relay and found nothing unusual there apart from not being able to put it back together properly, but that’s not a big deal.

Checked the resistance to, from and across the efi fuse and that’s all normal.

So where is this ~1V voltage drop between the power buss and the main efi circuit coming from?

has anyone else had a similar problem?

what are you checking voltage against?

one of the strut bolts, and also checked the voltage drop dircety across the alternator feed to one of the efi main relay wires powering the idle control valve.
