Hilux Hard Start

Postby solitaire » Wed Feb 02, 2011 3:26 pm

Hiya, Sorry if this is a bit vague, i'll do my best to explain

My wife's kzn185 1kz-te 1996 hilux surf has developed a niggle.

Previous to about a week ago it would start up no worries at all.

Now it starts every time no problem but the actual turnover of the engine sounds slower, and like the starter motor is working harder.

The batterys are fine as far as i can see, i ran a multmeter of them and they both show 12.55v with no load. Fluid levels in the batteries are sweet.

Ideas? Where would you start? I want to catch this before it turns into something else.

many thanks lads

If the starter motor is going slower (but eventually it starts and runs fine), it means batteries are on the way out.

Also it pays to check the glow plugs (but they would not affect how fast the starter cranks, only how many cranks required to start).

Have a look at what the voltage is when you crank (the shit battery) pretty obvious when it sinks well below 10v  I have one of those batterys with the window and green light, kinda pointless since it only monitors 1 cell  Have a "good condition" green light one here sitting on 10v, so it's dropped a cell completely :x

You can get some magical fluid from jaycar that reconditions batteries, i've had success with it in the past.

Give it a burn.
It is a myth that emos are contagious, and you may be infected. However, it is still widely accepted to wash your hands after physical contact
