Hilux heater core

Have discovered on these last few chilly mornings that my heater doesnt really deliver much heat, fine now but wont be in winter.

Assume the cause would be a bung heater core, from searching it looks like a real pain in the ass to replace on cars(Dash our ETC)

Is there any chance it can be done in a hilux without removing the dash or shall I set aside a weekend to remove and replace

Are you sure it is not thermostat? What is the temperature gauge like when fully warm?

Yep - heater core is a major. Its just a process tho - accept that it'll take ages and they come apart/go back together nicely. If you try to rush, you'll fight it the whole way and it'll never be the same again!

But I doubt you'll need to pull it apart - as above, does the engine come properly up to temp?
Does the heater tap open properly (on the heater hose in engine bay)
Try removing the hoses and 'flushing' it with a garden hose - does water flow back out ok? (ie: does it appear restricted?)
Does the flap under the dash move properly when you select hot air?

Should be able to sort it out without removing the core - usually only have to remove them when they start leaking!

Yea comes up to temp fine, sits just under half way on the open road and bang on half way in traffic.

Flap seems to be operating ok but will have a closer look none the less will also flush all the hoses out & check the tap in the engine bay.

Its a 22r by the way as well.

...this might be a stupid question - but is there a chance radiator flush could improve the situation (if that stuff even works in the first place)?

So how exactly do i check it, the cable seems to move back and forth freely, should I pull it out and have a look to see if its moving inside?

The heater tap on mates supra crapped out. Told him it was a BHG. So he told me the usual, replaced the tap, filled it up, drove it, cooked it.
That's why the taps crap out.
