Airbag steering wheels

Postby Surge » Thu Mar 10, 2011 5:55 pm

Hey guys, my mates got a 1995 Sprinter (FWD, SE Vintage) - the airbag has been deployed and as such he needs a new steering wheel.

I realise you must replace it with another air bag wheel, just wondering which other wheels fit on. Are toyotas all the same when it comes to the spline that the wheel sits on?
The sprinter is just a corolla variant from my memory... so I was wondering if corolla wheels around the same era would suit.

Cheers guys.

Not legally you can't, but physically they might fit.

yup i know but if they are mechanical how can you tell from the car if it has originally an airbag or non-airbag?
my mates car has been stung a few times already about the mechanical airbags... vtnz guys are looking for the airbag light when in fact there is none. replaced it with a momo steering wheel and next warrants later they didnt even know it has one last time.

for the wof the air bag light has to work "if it has one" which if a mechanical air bag is fitted then it wont have a light, they "should" know that.

My GT-Four has a mechanical airbag and no light. I've had to argue with WOF inspectors a few times about why there is no light showing...

I wonder how many people have spent $$$ over the years due to idiot WOF inspectors.
