3L diesel starter motor query

Postby crispy'86 » Tue Mar 15, 2011 7:08 am

Hey all our starter on our hilux is playing up, (LN106 with 3L) slipping in the drive gear mechanism have been told. Now i've come across a starter off a 2L from a Hiace van. Now will this be a straight bolt-up to our motor and it'll be sweet? I'll be freshening this up i.e. lubricate drive end bushes etc before i put this in and then tackle our starter. So anyone know if i can just throw this in and it'll be all good?

There are about 6 different versions of the 2L 3L starters.

They do all physically mount to the bellhousing and engage the same,
but the differences are in
the side that the Batt Stud is on,
some have a fly lead and some have a mounted plug
there are small and large bodied starters, there is a real big size difference
there are early and late types of clutches in the small starters too,

But, if you can get it to fit, and the wiring to reach it will work.

(and they dont have bushes in them to lubricate)lol
