Fuel Pump feed from the tank: Ideas i have seen online

Postby MrOizo » Wed Mar 16, 2011 11:08 pm

I am looking at other ways to feed a 044 externally mounted and have seen setups like this in the US.

What are your guys thoughts on this:
(Where the internal baffle is in the tank, there is a bulkhead fitting feeding a external tank mounted under the chassis)

I have been steering down the track of having a surge tank and have found setups like this when searching.

I like the idea of a siphon setup like this but some have suggested the lift might be too high - would plan on having the pump as low as possible:

I am most likely going to go surge tank - just need more time!

Problem is the stock fuel tanks get surge.. well in most cars I duno about the Supra.

Maybe you can put a walbro intank pump into the stock location. Feed into a surge tank with another intank walbro inside the surge tank. That way you only have a tank and fittings etc. More compact that having a tank/filter/pump.

We have done surge tanks inside main tanks before,
usually in a custom tank too, but anything is possible.

Depends if you want reliability, tidyness, or maximum fuel capacity.

I have decided via discussion with kinloud that the best (and most relatively easiest) option is to have have stock 1JZ pump intank as a lift pump and feeding the external one.

I already have pretty much everything to do a siphon setup as thhats what i decided when i bought all the parts from summit.

I have seen the sumping of the tanks - this looks like a good idea and the US guys fizz over it. Here in NZ and AUS its not the most popular.

I like the idea of mounting the pump in tank. Makes a bit of sense - could cut down on the moise that a lot of people complain about with the 044's. I guess getting access to it once in place would be a bit of a mission though :?

I have an 044 located in the tank of my Supra and track it on a fairly regular basis I think you try and mount it as low as you can in the tank.I have had no issue's with the in tank mounting of my 044 and it seems to work well had a Walbro GSS341 intank pump before that that also worked well.

Have to say though the 044 is a noisey F**KER though.

044 too noisy for my liking also.

If you drive your car on the road a lot, I would advise not having one lol.

Its real bad when the fuel gets hotter, so the longer you run the louder it gets.

I've got an 044 in my tank and can confirm its pretty loud, especially if the fuel gets hot like Barry says. Saying that thou its worked perfectly and I had zero surge problems at Puke
