Postby tim_blair » Mon Apr 11, 2011 6:27 pm

im thinking about buying over sized pistons from toda for my black top

they sell 82mm (1mm over size) high comp pistons
for $1500nz

is it worth getting these or can i get something simalar for cheaper elsewhere?

also what is the maximum safe oversize limit?

No. Get something else cheaper.

Probably not many options for forged high comp pistons. Denco could make some, or Wiseco/JE might do something off the shelf, likely to be similar money though.
Max oversize depends on how thick your block is.

run 82mm toda's in my 16v. nicely finished pistons. they dont run wide clearances so no piston slap when cold. would be nice if they offered higher compression version like 12.5:1

yea doooo it! Daniel has spent shitloads on his car. I know that buying his one you loose the thrill of building something yourself but man it saves some serious cash and alot of hassle!

Is it a racing engine or turbo/super charged? Racing engines are never driven on the street, it's just a high performance street engine.
If the intake & ECU & cams & exhaust aren't being changed/modified, then no, it's not worth getting them.

wow that is a monster of an awesome car!!

but sadly i get way to much pleasure out of building it myself

and i dont have a spare 10k atm

its gona be a street car im getting the engine rebuilt with machining and figured i may as well get some hot pistons while its apart

i was going turbo but i weighted up the costs and its just to much

im doin the exhaust and intake and ecu, and will eventually do the cams futher down the road

not really after alot but more after a fresh engine thats beter than it was

plus i want that itb roar back 8)

sounds like you'd be better off with standard pistons, head skim and trd gasket.

dude are you $&#$% serious??

you are building an engine, you already have most of the gear to turbo it, and say you are getting a ECU to run it all but say its going to cost you too much to turbo it.

you will spend a quarter as much turboing it as you will making it a descent N/A engine and will have twice the power with turbo.

what you said is bordering on ridiculous.
