strange noise at 2k rpm

Postby Tagged » Mon Apr 25, 2011 2:18 pm

this has been there since I've bought the car, however because its not causing any noticeable problems I kind of neglected it till now...

So its an 1998 Levin BZR as some of you may already know, and the problem is that at just over 2k rpm (eg. from 2k to 2.15k), the engine doesn't sound right...

While through out all other range of rpm the engine sounds constant and smooth, at the rpm range stated above some kind of "grinding" noise comes in.....don't really know how to describe this any clearer...

Any1 got idea what the problem might be?

thanks guys~

A random noise from 2000rpm to 2150rpm, are you serious?

Take it to a mechanic.

No, just sounds like an exhaust, they make different tones at different revs, can vibrate, hit other parts of your car at certain revs. All sorts of things. If you don't want to get under the car and maybe try trace the noise yourself with someone revving it, take it to a mechanic.

It will be nothing i'm sure... some times its faster to try and trace noises yourself than ask people on a forum for wild guesses as to what it might be

Does it only happen under load (while driving) or can you make it happen by revving the engine on the spot? Might be an idea to get someone to hold it at that point while you look around for it - or even ask someone from here with a bit more knowledge to come round and have a look while you do it.

My Corolla does something similar....but it's older than I am so it's sorta expected to make noises
