1ge to 1gge swap

Postby Hachiroku » Fri Apr 29, 2011 10:49 pm

I've got a NZ-new GX71 with the 1ge in it and want to swap in a 1gge. I've been lead to believe this swap is pretty straightforward. I know I'll need to use DOHC ECU, AFM and powersteering gear and change radiator hoses around.

Can I use the SOHC loom or will I need the gge one?
Will the DOHC exhaust manifold bolt up to my standard exhaust flange?
Are there any other tricks involved?

Cheers.

1ge has a slightly different exhaust manifold from the 1gge, about 5mm out at either end, looks exactly the same otherwise. The looms are completely different.

About the only thing they share afaik is the block and mounting points of course, i'm not sure on the differences in crank. Will know when i get around to tearing mine apart :)

Yea you will have to get a whole engine, eg powersteering pump alternator etc

I think we were able to bolt the 1gge exhaust manifold up to the head and then back onto my factory 1geu exhaust pipe, stupid how the exhaust manifolds are different...

Im trying to find a 1ggte atm and I might be keen to sell my 1gge, I know of another 1gge in dunedin that the guy wants to sell also.
zing! Sig got nuked. Sorry bout that.

Correct, don't even bother with a 1gge.

1ggze just feels like a bigger engine, 1ggte goes like a mildly excited 2L should do when you get up around 1 bar.
It is a myth that emos are contagious, and you may be infected. However, it is still widely accepted to wash your hands after physical contact
