Random Pull in 4WD

Postby Boosted_162 » Sun May 01, 2011 7:55 pm

Hey guys.

Got a random problem in my terrano. When i engage 4WD (either high or low ratio) and drive on the road, it has a mad pull to the right (and always the right). Never does it in 2WD. Has auto locking hubs, which were apparantly rebuilt by my mate - altho this is the same mate who says the overheating is normal and is actually a mechanic

Should also mention - it has 1 or 2 split CV boots, and i think the random clicking i hear sometimes is a CV - related? I didnt assume so seeing as the driveshafts are spinning even in 2WD.

Anyone encountered this before?? Cheers

Are tyre sizes the same and consistent wear on them all?

Yep, all tyres are 31x10.5.15 GT Radials with even wear, only have a couple of thousand km on them.

i'd jack up the front end and make sure the diff is behaving as you would expect.

That reminds of several confusing hours we spent at rally Otago trying to figure out why the $&#$% the car was pulling to the right under accelration... Turns out Dunlop had a bad patch of l/h tyres that were balooned out making them bigger! Took us all day before we found it...

But yeah, stick it on a hoist or 4 good axles stands (be careful!!!) and make sure it's got drive to both fronts.

But before you do that, check the suspension bushes etc in the front.

Now you mention that...my mate has replaced the bushes in the front top arm on the right side with nolathane, while the left is still the old bushes (i havent got round to replacing yet) - coincidence?

Will try other things as well, keep the ideas coming :D
